Barbara Jabłońska: Public Sphere of European Union. Critical Discourse Analysis

The main goal of the paper is to discuss the problem of communicative processes of in the context of institutional reform of EU. The accent is bestowed upon the condition of the European public sphere, and the role of crucial actors of political communication, such as political elites, media and citizens. The problematic of deliberative democracy of EU is considered within theoretical and analytical frames of Critical Discourse Analysis, which can be helpful to identify the structures of dominance and inequalities in public and political communication. Thus, the first part of the text refers to the issue of deliberation and communication within public sphere, and also it summarize the definitional and methodological aspects of discourse – and specially – critical discourse analysis. In the second part of the text it is considered the condition of European public sphere, and the role of media in the process of public communication, particularly in the context of the debate on Constitutional Treaty and Treaty of Lisbon.
