Marek Palczewski - The frame of negativity in tabloid news and its language form

Since Galtung and Ruge defined news values it is commonly known that one of the most widespread frames is the frame of negativity. The purpose of this article is to analyse this frame in the news published in the Polish tabloids - "Super Express" and "Fact" from January 9 to January 15 of 2017. The study shows that messages included in the frame of negativity accounted for about 50 percent of all news accounts in this period. A characteristic feature of messages in tabloids is the dramatization of events, their sensationalisation, and emotional commentary, as well as the simplification of reporting combined with the stereotypical assessment of phenomena.Keywords: news, tabloids, frame of negativity
