Bartosz Arkuszewski - The relic as a singular subject. A contribution to considerations on the bodily aspect of religion

This article concerns the cult of relics, with emphasis on the aspect of embodiment. In contemporary research paradigms, the bodily side of religion is increasingly investigated – bodily as expressed through and in the body. It is worth noting that within Polish anthropological discourse there is an established stance of reflection on the physical, sensory and performative aspects of experiencing religion. Theoretical considerations of this issue are based on a case study of the cult of John Paul II’s relics at the Centrum Jana Pawła II (John Paul II Centre) in Kraków.
