This article discusses confidentiality in journalism and its subjective and objective scope. The conditions for releasing a journalist from legal confidentiality and the consequences of disclosure are discussed. The article posits a change in the existing provisions and argues for an extension of the scope of journalistic confidentiality so that it is closer aligned to lawyer-client privilege and the confidentiality of confession. It is suggested that lodging a complaint against the decision to overrule journalistic confidentiality should automatically lead to the suspension of the execution of the court's order until it becomes final.
Keywords: professional confidentiality, journalism, release from confidentiality.
