BEATA CZECH: Wroclaw newspapers before unification (Gleichschaltung). The diversity of views on Poland - an attempt of analysis

This article shows heterogeneous views of Wroclaw press market on the problematics of Polish-German border just before the proclamation of the Third Reich. Liberal "Breslauer Zeitung" proposes to solve the problem of the Polish Corridor peacefully. The newspaper disseminates the idea of nationalistic liberalism, to urge Germans to provide their country with equal rights in the international arena by coercing the changes in the Wersal Treaty in a peaceful way. "Nationalsozialistische Schlesische Tageszeitung" denies Poland the right to exist and foretells radical changes in the East. This publication is the beginning of the State's agitation to justify the expansionary politics. NST tries to rationalize the belief about a danger in the East to Germans by supporting it with the authority of scientific researches. Communist "Schlesische Arbeiterzeitung" stands in opposition to NST, as it is against any imperialistic German aspirations. It published a report on a communist rally, which encourages to resist the imperialistic plans of Germany, thereby moving away the vision of Polish-German war. However, the primary function of this article is to mobilize the reader to overthrow parliamentarism and form the Republic of Councils.
