AGNIESZKA ŁUKASIK-TURECKA: The presidential election campaign in socio-political weekly magazines

The presidential election campaign in the year 2005 was reflected in the analyzed weekly magazines: "Polityka", "Tygodnik Solidarność" and "Wprost". The subject matter was treated not thoroughly as far as the number of publications is concerned. As far as the form; that is the genres which were used for its description; it was presented in a serious and suitable way. The names of journalists who presented and commented upon the events from the election campaign in weekly magazines prove that the subject was treated seriously. The attempt to present the events from this period in an objective way is also seen in the way of presenting candidates for the head of state. However, the presence of election advertisements in weekly magazines is alarming. Although all these magazines aspirate to the dignity of independent and advisory magazines, each of the analyzed titles published an election advertisement during the presidential election campaign in the year 2005.
